Two fair dice are rolled. What is the probability that both show the same number?

Two dice give $6 \times 6 = 36$ equally likely outcomes.
The same number on both is a double: $(1, 1), (2, 2), \ldots, (6, 6)$ , which is 6 outcomes.
So the probability is $\frac{6}{36} = \frac16$ , option E.
