Evaluate $\dfrac{xy^2 - x^2y}{x^2 - xy}$ when $x = -2$ and $y = 3$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Factorise the top and bottom: $\dfrac{xy(y - x)}{x(x - y)}$ .
$y - x = -(x - y)$ , so after cancelling $x$ and $x - y$ the fraction is $-y$ .
With $y = 3$ the value is $-3$ , option A.
