Divide the expression x3+7x2−x−7x^3 + 7x^2 - x - 7 by x2−1x^2 - 1.

Worked solution (try it first)
  1. Group the terms in pairs: x3+7x2−x−7=x2(x+7)−1(x+7)x^3 + 7x^2 - x - 7 = x^2(x + 7) - 1(x + 7).
  2. Take out the common bracket: (x2−1)(x+7)(x^2 - 1)(x + 7).
  3. So dividing by x2−1x^2 - 1 leaves x+7x + 7, option D.
