If a=1 and b=3, solve for x in the equation a−xa=x−bb.
Worked solution (try it first)
Put in
a=1 and
b=3:
1−x1=x−33.
Cross-multiply:
x−3=3(1−x), so
x−3=3−3x.
Add
3x and 3 to both sides:
4x=6.
Divide by 4:
x=23, option C.
