If the 6th term of an arithmetic progression is 11 and the first term is 1, find the common difference.

Worked solution (try it first)

The 6th term of an A.P. is $a + 5d$ , so $1 + 5d = 11$ .
Subtract 1 from both sides: $5d = 10$ .
So $d = 2$ , option D.
