Solid mensuration

The base diameter of a cylinder is 14 cm and its height is 12 cm. Calculate the total surface area if the cylinder has both a base and a top. $\left[\pi = \frac{22}{7}\right]$

Worked solution (try it first)

Radius $= 14 \div 2 = 7$ cm.
With a base and a top, the total surface area is $2\pi r(r + h)$ .
$2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times 7 \times (7 + 12) = 44 \times 19$
$= 836\text{ cm}^2$ , option A.
