Find the coordinates of the midpoint of the $x$ - and $y$ -intercepts of the line $2y = 4x - 8$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Divide by 2: $y = 2x - 4$ .
On the $x$ -axis $y = 0$ , so $x = 2$ : the point $(2, 0)$ .
On the $y$ -axis $x = 0$ , so $y = -4$ : the point $(0, -4)$ .
Average the two points: $\left(\frac{2 + 0}{2}, \frac{0 - 4}{2}\right) = (1, -2)$ , option D.
