Find the slope of the curve $y = 2x^2 + 5x - 3$ at $(1, 4)$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

The slope is $\frac{dy}{dx} = 4x + 5$ .
At $x = 1$ : $4 + 5 = 9$ , option B.
