Simplify 98−5032\dfrac{\sqrt{98} - \sqrt{50}}{\sqrt{32}}.

Worked solution (try it first)
  1. Take out square factors: 98=72\sqrt{98} = 7\sqrt2, 50=52\sqrt{50} = 5\sqrt2 and 32=42\sqrt{32} = 4\sqrt2.
  2. Top: 72−52=227\sqrt2 - 5\sqrt2 = 2\sqrt2.
  3. So the value is 2242=12\dfrac{2\sqrt2}{4\sqrt2} = \frac12, option A.
