Coordinate geometry

Find the midpoint of the line joining $P(-3, 5)$ and $Q(5, -3)$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

The midpoint is the average of the ends: add the coordinates and halve.
$x$ : $\frac{-3 + 5}{2} = 1$ .
$y$ : $\frac{5 + (-3)}{2} = 1$ .
So the midpoint is $(1, 1)$ , option D.
