What is the rate of change of the volume VV of a hemisphere with respect to its radius rr when r=2r = 2?

Worked solution (try it first)
  1. A hemisphere is half a sphere, so V=12×43πr3V = \frac12 \times \frac43\pi r^3
    =23πr3= \frac23\pi r^3.
  2. Differentiate: dVdr=2πr2\frac{dV}{dr} = 2\pi r^2.
  3. At r=2r = 2: 2π×4=8π2\pi \times 4 = 8\pi, option C.
