Find the mean of $t + 2$ , $2t - 4$ , $3t + 2$ and $2t$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Add the four expressions: the $t$ terms give $t + 2t + 3t + 2t = 8t$ and the numbers give $2 - 4 + 2 = 0$ .
So the sum is $8t$ , and the mean is $\frac{8t}{4} = 2t$ , option D.
