Calculus (JAMB bridge)

If $y = 4x^3 - 2x^2 + x$ , find $\dfrac{dy}{dx}$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Differentiate each term: bring the power down and reduce it by one.
$4x^3$ gives $12x^2$ , $-2x^2$ gives $-4x$ , and $x$ gives 1.
So $\frac{dy}{dx} = 12x^2 - 4x + 1$ , option A.
