Two fair dice are thrown together. Calculate the probability that the sum obtained is less than 8.

Worked solution (try it first)

There are $6 \times 6 = 36$ equally likely outcomes.
Count the sums from 2 to 7: $1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 21$ outcomes.
So the probability is $\frac{21}{36} = \frac{7}{12}$ , option E.
