The 11th term of an arithmetic progression is 63. Find the first term if its common difference is 3.

Worked solution (try it first)

The 11th term of an A.P. is $a + 10d$ , so $a + 10 \times 3 = 63$ .
Subtract 30 from both sides: $a = 33$ , option D.
