Find the 17th term of the arithmetic progression whose first three terms are −6,−1,4-6, -1, 4.

Worked solution (try it first)
  1. This is an A.P. with a=−6a = -6 and d=−1−(−6)=5d = -1 - (-6) = 5.
  2. The 17th term is a+16d=−6+16×5a + 16d = -6 + 16 \times 5.
  3. So T17=−6+80=74T_{17} = -6 + 80 = 74, option C.
