Which of the following points lies on the line $3x - 8y = 11$ ?

Worked solution (try it first)

A point lies on the line if its coordinates make $3x - 8y$ equal to 11.
$(1, -1)$ : $3(1) - 8(-1) = 3 + 8 = 11$ .
It works.
The others give $3 - 8 = -5$ , $-3 - 8 = -11$ and $-3 + 8 = 5$ .
So the answer is $(1, -1)$ , option B.
