Find the values of xx for which 6x−1x2+4x−5\dfrac{6x - 1}{x^2 + 4x - 5} is undefined.

Worked solution (try it first)
  1. A fraction is undefined when its bottom is zero: x2+4x−5=0x^2 + 4x - 5 = 0.
  2. Factorise: (x+5)(x−1)=0(x + 5)(x - 1) = 0.
  3. So x=−5x = -5 or x=1x = 1, option B.
