Find the smaller value of $x$ for which $x^2 - 3x + 2 = 0$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Factorise: $(x - 1)(x - 2) = 0$ .
So $x = 1$ or $x = 2$ .
The smaller value is 1, option D.
