In the diagram, $PQ \parallel TU$ , $\angle PQR = 50^\circ$ , $\angle QRS = 86^\circ$ and $\angle STU = 64^\circ$ . Find $x$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Draw a line through $R$ parallel to $PQ$ .
By alternate angles, $RQ$ makes $50^\circ$ with it, so $RS$ makes $86^\circ - 50^\circ = 36^\circ$ with it.
Draw a line through $S$ parallel to $TU$ .
By alternate angles, $SR$ makes $36^\circ$ with it and $ST$ makes $64^\circ$ with it.
So $x = 36^\circ + 64^\circ = 100^\circ$ , option A.
