Trigonometric graphs

Say the answer to yourself, then check. Cards you know come back less and less often; cards you don't come back tomorrow.

  1. Know it

Between which values do y=sin⁡xy = \sin x and y=cos⁡xy = \cos x go, and how often do they repeat?

    Answer

    Between −1-1 and 11, repeating every 360∘360^\circ.

  2. Know it

    The greatest and least values of y=2sin⁡x+1y = 2\sin x + 1?

    Answer

33 and −1-1: twice as tall, moved up 1.

  3. Know it

    How often does y=3sin⁡2xy = 3\sin 2x repeat?

    Answer

Every 180∘180^\circ, twice as often as sin⁡x\sin x.

  4. Know it

Filling in the table of values: which calculator mode?

    Answer

Degree mode (D or DEG on the screen). In radian mode every value comes out wrong.

  5. Know it

    Your graph is of y=2sin⁡x+1y = 2\sin x + 1. How do you use it to solve sin⁡x=14\sin x = \frac14?

    Answer

    Make the equation match the graph: 2sin⁡x+1=1.52\sin x + 1 = 1.5. Draw y=1.5y = 1.5 and read down from each crossing.

  6. Know it

Reading the greatest value from your graph: what should you watch for?

    Answer

The top is often between plotted points. Draw the curve smoothly through the top instead of flattening it at a plotted value.
