Find the gradient of the line passing through the points $(-2, 0)$ and $(0, -4)$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Gradient is the change in $y$ over the change in $x$ , taken in the same order: $\dfrac{-4 - 0}{0 - (-2)}$ .
The top is $-4$ and the bottom is $0 + 2 = 2$ .
So the gradient is $\frac{-4}{2} = -2$ , option C.
