Given that 2=1.414\sqrt2 = 1.414, find without using tables the value of 12\frac{1}{\sqrt2}.

Worked solution (try it first)
  1. Rationalise: 12=22\dfrac{1}{\sqrt2} = \dfrac{\sqrt2}{2}.
  2. Now you only need to halve: 1.4142=0.707\dfrac{1.414}{2} = 0.707, option D.
