Sets & Venn diagrams

In a science class of 42 students, each offers at least one of Mathematics and Physics. If 22 students offer Physics and 28 offer Mathematics, how many students offer Physics only?

Worked solution (try it first)

Every student takes at least one subject, so $n(M \cup P) = 42$ .
Both subjects: add the two subjects and take away the total, $28 + 22 - 42 = 8$ .
Physics only: $22 - 8 = 14$ , option D.
