Calculus (JAMB bridge)

Two variables $x$ and $y$ are such that $\frac{dy}{dx} = 4x - 3$ and $y = 5$ when $x = 2$ . Find $y$ in terms of $x$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Integrate: $y = 2x^2 - 3x + c$ .
Put in $x = 2$ , $y = 5$ : $5 = 8 - 6 + c$ , so $c = 3$ .
So $y = 2x^2 - 3x + 3$ , option B.
