Sn is the sum of the first n terms of a series given by Sn=n2−1. Find the nth term.
Worked solution (try it first)
The
nth term is the sum of
n terms minus the sum of
n−1 terms:
Tn=Sn−Sn−1.
So
Tn=(n2−1)−((n−1)2−1)=n2−(n−1)2.
Expand:
n2−(n2−2n+1)=2n−1, option D.
