QuestionJAMBGeneral Maths2000ObjectiveQuadratics & their graphsQuadratics & their graphs
If α and β are the roots of the equation 3x2+5x−2=0, find the value of α1+β1.
Worked solution (try it first)
For
ax2+bx+c=0, the sum of the roots is
−ab and the product is
ac.
So
α+β=−35 and
αβ=−32.
Add the fractions:
α1+β1=αβα+β.
So the value is
−35÷(−32)=25, option D.
