The mean of a set of six numbers is 60. If the mean of the first five is 50, find the sixth number.

Worked solution (try it first)
  1. Total of all six numbers: 6×60=3606 \times 60 = 360.
  2. Total of the first five: 5×50=2505 \times 50 = 250.
  3. The sixth number is the difference: 360−250=110360 - 250 = 110, option A.
