Evaluate $\dfrac{xy^2 - z^2}{2yz} + \dfrac{x^2}{2y + z}$ when $x = 2$ , $y = -3$ and $z = -2$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

First fraction: the top is $2(9) - 4 = 14$ and the bottom is $2(-3)(-2) = 12$ , so it is $\frac{7}{6}$ .
Second fraction: the top is $4$ and the bottom is $-6 - 2 = -8$ , so it is $-\frac{1}{2}$ .
Add: $\frac{7}{6} - \frac{3}{6} = \frac{4}{6}$
$= \frac{2}{3}$ , option B.
