If $y = 3x^2 - 4x - 12$ , find the value of $x$ when $\dfrac{dy}{dx} = 0$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Differentiate: $\frac{dy}{dx} = 6x - 4$ .
Set it to zero: $6x = 4$ , so $x = \frac46 = \frac23$ , option C.
