A fence $2.4\text{ m}$ tall is $10\text{ m}$ away from a tree of height $16\text{ m}$ . Calculate the angle of elevation of the top of the tree from the top of the fence.

Worked solution (try it first)

Look from the top of the fence: the top of the tree is $16 - 2.4 = 13.6$ m higher, and 10 m away.
So $\tan\theta = \frac{13.6}{10} = 1.36$ .
So $\theta = \tan^{-1}1.36$
$\approx 53.67^\circ$ , option B.
