Linear & simultaneous equations

If $4x + 2y = 16$ and $6x - 2y = 4$ , find the value of $(y - x)$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Add the two equations so the $y$ terms cancel: $10x = 20$ , so $x = 2$ .
Put $x = 2$ into $4x + 2y = 16$ : $8 + 2y = 16$ , so $2y = 8$ and $y = 4$ .
So $y - x = 4 - 2 = 2$ , option B.
