Find the quadratic equation whose roots are $\frac23$ and $-1$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Roots $\frac23$ and $-1$ give the factors $(3x - 2)$ and $(x + 1)$ .
Expand: $(3x - 2)(x + 1) = 3x^2 + 3x - 2x - 2$
$= 3x^2 + x - 2$ .
So the equation is $3x^2 + x - 2 = 0$ , option A.
