In a survey of 50 newspaper readers, 40 read Champion and 30 read Guardian. How many read both papers?

Worked solution (try it first)

Take each reader to read at least one of the papers, so $n(C \cup G) = 50$ .
Both papers: $40 + 30 - 50 = 20$ , option D.
