Linear & simultaneous equations

A man will be $x + 10$ years old in 8 years' time. If 2 years ago he was 63 years old, find the value of $x$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Two years ago he was 63, so now he is $63 + 2 = 65$ .
In 8 years' time he will be $65 + 8 = 73$ .
So $x + 10 = 73$ .
Take 10 from both sides: $x = 63$ , option B.
