Solve $\dfrac{y + 2}{4} - \dfrac{y - 1}{3} > 1$ .

Worked solution (try it first)

Multiply every term by 12, the LCM of 4 and 3: $3(y + 2) - 4(y - 1) > 12$ .
Expand, taking care with the minus: $3y + 6 - 4y + 4 > 12$ , so $-y + 10 > 12$ .
Subtract 10 from both sides: $-y > 2$ .
Multiply by $-1$ and reverse the sign: $y < -2$ , option B.
